"Autobiography proves to lack direction
and end up Munn-dane as ever"

See what I did there? Her name is Olivia Munn and then I used the Munn to... yeah.

So I just read this small autobiography by Olivia Munn. First I have to give you some history because I'm going to assume that next to no one reading this will know who Olivia Munn is. Well, my first real contact with her is from a show that's aired on the G4TV network (that's TechTV, on digital cable in case you were wondering why you've never heard of it). The show is called Attack of the Show and they have a daily show that reviews anything tech / internet / video game / geek culture related. If you're someone who enjoys the internet culture and viral videos, I highly recommend this show.

Anyhow, the hosts of the show are Kevin Pereira and Olivia Munn. They do a great job keeping it spontaneous and fun, while taking full advantage of the fact they're on digital cable and are not on primetime television (ie: they make some vag jokes, are completely spontaneous and unprofessional, but while keeping it fun). Now I'll say right now that Olivia is surprisingly funny on a consistent basis. Am I being sexist? Yes I am, but for good reason. Because I think many people can agree that especially for live shows, pretty women tend to take the passenger seat and follow along with whatever shananigans the male host will pull. BUT Olivia has her own style of humor that comes off as original, genuine, and fresh. This has lead for her blow-up on the Hollywood scene with all kinds of appearances including Ironman 2, The Daily Show, and several interviews with late night talk shows. Which brings me to the fact that I have been looking forward to this book's release for months on end (something very rare to happen for me).

When I finally got my paws on the book, I knew that I had been looking forward to this book's release for months on end (something very rare to happen for me)., I noticed instantly that there was a pin-up poster of Ms. Munn on the inside of the hard cover sleeve. I wish I could show you that picture (daiiim she's hot), but it doesn't seem to be posted ANYWHERE on the net. Weird... considering that was the best part of the book (spoiler alert!). As I got into the book, I realized really quickly that there wasn't going to be any structure to this thing at all. She has close to 30+ chapters in this book if I remember correctly, each making for their own side story that veers completely away from what the previous chapter was working towards. Sure there are some moments that you can take away from the book, but any book with more than 20 different side stories has a good chance of having one or two highlights. However, I felt like the majority of the book was characterizing a funny experience she had, that wasn't very funny, but is infused with forced humor to try and get a laugh (such as the use of vagina related words, or obscene shock words).

The book is a somewhat rambling mess compared to other actor autobiography's I have read. It's like Olivia wants to make you laugh, but can't decide on the joke or story to get the best result. So instead, she machine-guns you with so many inconsequential stories and tidbits that you're left wondering, "huh?". This isn't helped by the fact that Olivia also tries to tell her own personal struggles during school time. Instead of making you experience them and causing sympathy for Young Munn, she tells it in such a way that comes off as whiny and bitter. It's like she's telling you why she deserves to have what she has today and that she put her time in the craphole to get there. Okay okay, that's a fair enough point, but don't club me over the head with your whining..

In all, I really really wanted to enjoy the book. I think Olivia is an entertaining actress and an interesting celebrity in general, but I think this proves the point that not all famous people deserve a book deal. If you have nothing solid to write about, then you shouldn't write anything at all. Or apparently it doesn't prove anything, because Suck it Wonder Woman! has now made it onto the New York Times Best Seller's list. Also I'd like to say that there were some spelling and grammatical errors in the book. Does anyone else get frustrated when you see that in a published book? Shouldn't someone have read the book to see that there should have been a space between two clearly different words? It really starts to make you question your own intelligence when you're reading.

On the other hand, I've started reading another book called Sh*t my Dad Says. LOVING it so far! More to come after I finish it.
