New Blog! NOW WITH FANTASTIC NEW FLAVOUR - ASSORTED!!
I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with a blog that doesn't have a central theme or subject. Of course, it still needs to retain the interesting aspect, so let's hope that comes effortlessly:
1) 'I Am Legend' now on DVD: I just finished watching 'I Am Legend'. I'm actually very impressed with the movie altogether. The CG effects were good, and the story was captivating and different. But I think the real highlight for me was Will Smith's performance. I was pleasantly surprised at the depth of his character and how different it was from any other character he'd played. If I were to make a comparison of a character that's similar to this one, I'd say it would be his character from 'Enemy of the State', which is another good movie. Both are played with consideration about a complicated past for the character and without a shred of cheesy one-liners. Well done.
However, I could see why people would rag on this movie. I must agree that the movie did seem to decline in the last half. But at the same time, I completely understand how it could happen. For the writers, it must have been a huge challenge to try and come up with an original way to end such an original idea.
I also think that people expect too much from movies these days. I suppose that's what happens when a production company hypes a blockbuster movie with a great looking trailer. Still though, I honestly believe that the standards for movies has definitely been raised to unrealistic heights these days. I think a reason why we see this trend is because of how easy it is to download anything. This translates to higher expectations for theatre watched movies since you're paying for something, it better be damn good. Also the ease of accessing and downloading thousands of old movies really lets audiences become picky about what they want to spend their time on. That coupled with the download time involved with getting a movie, it can be easy to write-off a movie for not exceeding expectations.
In all, I Am Legend was good because I wasn't expecting anything of the movie and/or Will Smith.
2) The School Career: I tend to rant on and on about school when I start a blog about it, so I'll try to keep it short and sweet.
I've realized just last week that it's actually less stressful and enjoyable for me to attend my classes than it is to skip them for whatever reason. In the past I used pride myself on getting through classes with the most minimal effort possible. Any lectures that proved useless to attend in terms of course knowledge or GPA contribution I'd avoid at all costs. I just felt so clever for the fact that I didn't waste my time stewing away at a class that yielded nothing to me.
Now what I've realized is that it's not so easy to figure out which class is or isn't important. Because of this, it's tough for me to skip a class and enjoy the time doing something else. So I find it more enjoyable when I goto class and make sure that nothing was important, as it at least gives me peace of mind that I didn't miss anything important and that I'm not potentially screwing myself for future exams.
This important realization came from my last Music Listening class where I was stressed out about a music quiz we had that day. I had gotten just over 4 hours of sleep for the night and I was trying to plan out whether I should goto class or not. The reason why I was questioning it to begin with was because I had missed a crucial class previously that practically laid out everything to expect for the quiz. So the question at this point was if I show up to today's class and risk looking retarded when I don't know any of the answers for this quiz. OR do I skip this class and go next class to look even dumber for missing the quiz altogether last week. In the end I went to class because I became stressed about what else I'd miss and I couldn't get back to sleep anyhow. And it turns out my teacher did a full review just before the quiz started and I did significantly better on my quiz than I expected.
3) Work: Work's been interesting lately as I've slowly begun reducing my hours for final exams in hopes that my manager wouldn't realize it. Working at a cell kiosk is a tricky thing I'm finding as I never seem to have all the information I should. I'm not quite sure if that's just the situation for our kiosk itself, but it would seem to me that any store/kiosk worker faces the same situation. Since plans always change, customer situations come in all shapes and forms, and technology is infinitely complicated, I find myself scratching my head more times than I'd like to when the customer is asking me a question. For me I'm kind of an knowledge junky. I have to know exactly how everything works just so I have peace of mind that I can pass onto others (just like the skipping school thing). I can easily say that I enjoyed working at Futureshop more than Rogers based solely on the fact that I knew computers much more intricately than I do about Rogers plans and products.
