The Daily Grind

That's what she called it!

Nothing? Alright I tried. So my life has kind of been flipped upside down where I once had oodles of time to do whatever I felt like, to now where I begin to wonder when I'll get the opportunity to study.

As I've shared with many of you, I now currently work at the Roger's Wireless Plus in St. Albert Centre. It's hard to characterize the whole experience into one specific theme or adjective. Like most jobs, it's had it's ups and downs depending on the workshift and the customers you deal with. Still, I've been able to make some general conclusions:

1) St. Albert residents are nice people: I can say this whole-heartedly because not once in all of my unexperienced blunders with the job have the customers ever gotten upset or impatient with me. Even today, we must have spent almost 3 hours with one customer because the customer service line was jerking us around with what deal we can give him and what we can't give him. 3 hours is an eternity especially considering it's a kiosk and not a store. But in the end, the customer didn't really direct any frustration towards us working in the kiosk and even apologized to us for taking up so much time. Definitely not the typical response where the customer will direct all frustration with the company in general to the closest conduit (which would be me, the frontline salesman). Heck, one woman even gave me a lifesaver candy today for no particular reason.

2) Malls tend to yield better looking girls: I had this suspicion earlier when I worked at the Kingsway Sportchek, but now I can confirm it. Given we're not terribly busy at the St. Albert centre, hence not as much traffic and with that as high of a probability of seeing a smoking hot girl, but there has definitely been some lookers already.

3) I always want to buy things from the company I work for: Being unemployed from the retail business for a year a half, my sense of needs and wants have been given a chance to adapt. During the break from retail jobs, I began to realize all the things I didn't need to buy (especially tech wise). But now that I work at a phone store, I find myself in the market for and looking at Blackberry's and Bluetooth headsets, things I hadn't previously thought I needed. I think it's helped that I've had some time to realize I don't really need those things, but sometimes I can't help but windowshop for them. Maybe it's because you spend so much time explaining to customers why the products are so great that subconsciously you also sell yourself on the product.

4) Malls are a great place to work: Think about it: reasonable opening and closing times, access to food vendors instantly, possible mall discounts, and things to do/look at when you're on your break. When I was on my break today, I started looking around Winners and I remembered why I love that store.. The only bummer is that there's typically not a big staffroom (none for us), and therefore a lack of microwaves to heat bagged lunchs.

It's kinda funny how you start a blog intending on writing about something and you totally deviate from your plans right from the beginning. I totally didn't intend on writing what I did and I had a different topic in mind, but this works too.
