What's a man to do.
It's funny that only 2 days after my last exam, I'm finding myself bored at home with nothing to do. A big part of the reason why that would happen is because not everyone is done their exams, and some people are working. Which reminds me, I still need to look online for a job...
In the meantime though, I've been reading up on Gilbert Arenas' blog. Most of you have probably heard of his crazy antics and how amusing he can be but for those of you who haven't, let me explain. Gilbert Arenas is a NBA star player who plays for the Washington Wizards. What's amazing about him isn't as much about how good he is on the court (which is still really impressive), but how down to earth this guy is for being such a star athlete. Here's a segment of what's written on Wikipedia about Arenas:
"Gilbertology"
In the Washington, D.C. area, "Gilbertology" is the name given to Arenas's unorthodox behavior on and off the court, first coined by Wizards head coach Eddie Jordan. After being criticized for shooting too much as a point guard, Arenas would play games nearly without shooting at all, and then score at will the next game. Arenas admits that he thrives under criticism, using jersey number "0" because he was told in high school that he would get 0 minutes at Arizona.
While with the Warriors, he once took a shower at half time in full uniform.[12] Before every game he would take a teammate's jersey and hide it in the locker room to make them look for it. Warriors teammate Adonal Foyle called him a "lunatic," and Troy Murphy said he used to lick or put baby powder on donuts he was forced to deliver to the team as a prank.[13]
Arenas has been said to play online poker during the halftime of games[14], instead of resting or preparing for the second half. He disputes the accuracy of these stories, saying he was misquoted. Arenas says he does not play for money nor does he play online; instead, he plays on a DVD game of poker. On road trips, he will often eschew team outings on the town in favor of sitting in his room, ordering products from infomercials, such as a colon cleanser.[15] In the same interview he said he preferred sleeping on the couch than on his bed, and that he once ate 12 cheeseburgers while on a road trip with the Wizards in Canada.
The whole thing is really amusing, and the best part about it all is that he writes and updates his own blog very often. In fact, it was awarded as the Best Celebrity blog of 2007 by the Weblog awards. Now I've talked in the past about how cool it is to see celebrities having their own blogs and ways to interact with fans (ie: Jenna Fischer [Pam] from The Office), but it's even cooler when they update it frequently. Also, I had read that Gilbert is really into video games and has his own Xbox Live account gamertag Agent Arenas. I've checked out his tag on the Bungie website, and it was really funny to see all the awards he has.
The point is, although this guy is signed for his $65 million contract with his basketball team, it's really funny and cool to see him keep in touch with his fans. It also doesn't hurt that he's a funny guy with his crazy antics. It's too bad he's out on injury at the moment, because he'd be a fun player to watch. Here are a couple memorable lines from his blog:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When you’re an athlete, entertainer or whatever, people just assume that you’re supposed to buy them gifts and then when they don’t get you anything in return, they’ll hit you with the excuse, “Oh, you can get yourself anything.”
Oh, really?
We used to have a team gift exchange and they started getting mad at the gifts I was giving out. I gave Larry Hughes a bobblehead of me one year. I’ve also given out highlight tapes of myself. I give big, signed pictures of myself so they can look at me over the summer. You know, big ones that they can put on the wall or put it in the family room. That’s the kind of funny gifts I do. I don’t want to go out there and spend no money. I thought rich people were supposed to buy other rich people funny stuff, but they stopped doing the gift exchange because I wasn’t playing by the rules.
We used to do the same thing at Arizona. I’d ask the video guy to make me a highlight tape, and then I’d be like, “I know we’re going to miss each other over the Christmas break … So, here’s a highlight tape of myself! You go ahead and watch this.”

My Team
The Wizards are doing well. They’ve been beating up on some good teams lately. They just beat down on the Cleveland Cavaliers, which without LeBron and Larry Hughes … that was like a practice squad.
Oh man, I was letting them have it on Wednesday. I was letting Damon Jones have it. I almost made them come out of form. I know they didn’t like me on the sidelines. I had that whole Cleveland Cavaliers team laughing. I was telling Damon Jones, “Hey, you didn’t sign up for this Damon! When you left Miami and came over here, you didn’t sign up to be playing out there like this … You are a shooter! They got you dribbling and trying to call plays and stuff … That ain’t your game! You better renegotiate your contract!”
I told Pavlovic, “You should have did what Varejao did. You should have stayed out some more time because you are not doing it right now!”
That was my first game back on the bench. I had to help my team out. You know, I can’t play but I can talk that trash. It was fun being back on that bench because it gets my competitive mode back. Since I can’t go out there and do the work, I got to just talk it for my team.
I was making fun of, what’s his nickname, Boobie? I told Gibson, “Hey, it’s hard to shoot open shots when LeBron’s not on the floor! You ain’t going to get open shots no more. Not with Shannon Brown as the other wing. Nah, ain’t nobody going to be double teaming him!”
… Shannon Brown, you know, he hit a couple shots and then looked my way.
But, it’s fun being back on the bench now.
