TV Shows and Video Games

It seems that my week has been running quite well lately. I have a few thoughts about a number of random things, so I'm gonna jump into it:

1) Heroes and 24 finales were a little disappointing. I don't want to spoil anything, so if you haven't seen them, don't read the section that I will surround with **

**Spoiler**
24: I thought it was lame that nothing really happened to the main characters of the story. I mean really, Bill Buchanan and Karen Hayes live happily ever after. Jack is still alive, everyone at CTU is alive and well, and the villains are dead or prosecuted. Seemed a little uncharacteristic of Fox and of 24 to end it in this way. Two things that I did enjoy though were the bomb in the face for Mike Doyle, and the intense session that Jack has with Audrey's daughter. I laughed so hard when he was saying, "You and I both know that I'm pretty good at hiding myself. And if you send anyone to find me, I'll kill them. I'm pretty good at that too.." It's one of those unique moments where you get to see Jack give himself a little credit about how awesome he is at doing everything. Ahh good times. Other than that, I thought Jack's father was a weak character, didn't care much for Milo getting killed earlier in the series, and cared less about Jack's nephew (Josh) being kidnapped and all. The season had its ups and downs, unfortunately the finale wasn't one of the ups.

Heroes: I've decided to stop watching it completely. It seems a little ironic and foolish of me to choose to do this AFTER watching the finale to the season, but there are a number of ppl saying that it will go into season 2 indefinitely. I won't be on the Heroes train for that one. I find that with many non-Fox series like ABC or NBC, nothing seems to happen that has dire consequences. Anything that they do decide to do usually gets retracted through some future action or something like that. I felt really dissatisfied with the Heroes season itself because there was so much flip flopping of characters. Ok so Mr. Benet hates Ted and Parkman, oh but now he loves them, but nope now he doesn't again. After the dust settled, it was hard to be sure of who was on who's side, and the whole thing was overly contrived. I'm not really left with any sense of attachment to any of the characters of the series, and therefore I don't really care much about what happens in Season 2. That seems to be the flaw of having 8 main characters. Whereas you look at 24, Jack is the main guy that everyone has grown to love.

And what was that whole thing about Sylar and Peter's supposed epic battle? But oh wait, Sylar dies within 5 minutes of fighting Peter. Thanks a lot jerkoffs. Didn't even get to see Sylar or Peter use a majority of their powers. What the hell... I realize that it becomes very expensive to do the special effects of the powers they have, but then they shouldn't hype up this encounter so much throughout the series. It felt like a really big cop-out, and I thought that was really lame.

**End of Spoiler**

In all, I've decided to cut some series out of my Television watching repetoire. I finally realize that just because everyone else is following a series, doesn't necessarily mean that it's good and is worth watching. I think we get trapped into watching these series because it's free to watch them and follow the series. But at the same time, it's a huge time investment to follow all of these series and be up to date. So far, some of the series that are on the cutting room floor are Heroes, Naruto (maybe).

Hmm some other stuff. By now everyone's heard of the Starcraft 2 announcement. Hehe related to this topic, I read this quote from the artist of VG Cats, an online video game comic that made me laugh:

"F*** yes. I think I just spawned some overlords... In my Pants."

Although 95% of fans are thinking "What the hell took them so long?", I'm cautiously optimistic. Just watching that trailer and the quality of graphics that they're using, I'm psyched about the new look that the series will be getting. But I'm also keeping in mind that it's not going to be the same level or better than the original game, that's just obsurd to expect. I remember Starcraft being voted by one company as the greatest video game of all time. That's a pretty huge achievement if you ask me, and the fact that there are still people playing it still astounds me. Heck in Korea they even have TV shows dedicated to SC players fighting it out. That's massive!

In summary, it's gonna be a good game by regular standards, but not as good or better than the original. Its fate will look very similar to that of Warcraft 3 when it was first released. High expectations, decent delivery. Should still be a good one.

Speaking of more video games (man VG's have a stranglehold on my life), TFC 2 is slated to come out late summer. That's gonna be a WICKED game! Coming out for PC and 360. All I can say at this point is that I can't wait!!

P.S. Saw Shrek 3 over the weekend. Was a decent show, contrary to my expectations.
