Palendromes, Birthdays, and Aspirin
It's been one long week. I must say though, it has been quite interesting.
I don't really know where to start with this blog, so I'm just gonna get to it. I have this massive toothache on left top side of my mouth, that's been causing me lots of pain for the last week or so. So I made a dentist appointment to get it looked at, and the earliest I could get was a week from when I called which is today (Friday @ 9 AM). The problem with all of it was that this is one brutal toothache. I'm definitely sure that it's gonna be a root canal, which sucks for me because that means it's more sensitive, and it's gonna cost more. What sucks even more is the fact that my Wisdom Tooth operation was this year, taking up almost all of my dad's dental coverage for me. So, that means whatever it's gonna cost to fix this problem is gonna come right outta my own pocket. Just when you thought a student couldn't get any poorer...
Anyway, this tooth has been causing me tons of pain and discomfort for the entire week. For some reason, mid way through the week, the ache in my mouth was accompanied by some massive headaches in my left temple too. As you can guess, not the most ideal sleeping arrangements. Let this be a lesson to everyone on how important it is to take care of your teeth properly. It really does end up costing you in the end :P But yeah, I started popping some Advil throughout the week to ease the pain and help with getting to sleep. This is where the story gets interesting..
Now on the bottle, it says that you shouldn't take more than 6 aspirin in a 24 hr period. The pain and headaches got to the point where 1 aspirin do much to help me with the pain, so I'd start taking them in pairs during my dosages. One day after I got back from a movie rehearsal, I came up with a brilliant idea: "Why not take those leftover painkillers from the Wisdom Teeth Operation? Those must be WAY stronger and more effective.." So, I popped back 1 Ibuprofen and waited to see the results.
Surprisingly, I didn't feel any relief from the pain at all. So, being aggitated, I took another 2 advils to ease the pain enough to goto bed. You have to realize, I've had lots of experience with toothaches, and I remember my dentist telling me that the pain gets much worse when you are trying to sleep, because the blood rushes to your head and thus to the nerve. It's just brutal when you're lying in bed in pain, and you can't do anything to help yourself (I've had this happen lots not with just toothaches, but also with my arthritis).
So I wake up the next day, and I start to feel a little light headed and dizzy. I'm not quite sure if this condition was from the medication or if it was just me, because I was feeling crappy and dizzy even before I started the aspirin. Anyway, I stumble upon the advil bottle, and I read the instructions again. Blah blah blah, don't take more than 6 pills in a 24 hr period, blah blah blah do not take with Ibuprofin, blah blah.........wait a minute... Did that just say what I thought it said? Yep, I had just done what the bottle had told me not to do. Terrific... I also realized at that point that the Ibuprofen that I had taken was most likely a much much stronger version of the advil that I had been taken. So in effect, I probably overdosed on the aspirin like crazy for that night. My suspicions were reinforced during the following days when I started to show a sympton that overdosage would bring (I'm not gonna mention the actual sympton, but if you look up what happens when you overdose and the symptoms that follow, I can tell you that I was experiencing the worst one).
So yeah, I've been feeling like crap for the last week. It's kinda prevented me from going to karate, and it's really tired me out for everything else. Also on WebMD, it said to goto an emergency hospital or doctor as soon as possible if I showed any of those symptoms. Honestly, I haven't seen a doctor yet. I know it sounds stupid, but the symptoms have stopped and I'm beginning to feel way better. Also I drove by the medicentre today, and the parking lot was so packed. Any pharmacists or med students got an advice for me? With that said, who knows how well my birthday weekend is going to go. I hope I don't die on my birthday...........that would just be ironic...
Btw, I'm turning 22 today, which is a palendrome! Crazy.... With all the stuff that's been going on this week, it's made me reflect on the state of my life. It's kinda unreal to think that I'm only 22 and it seems like I'm having some health issues early in my life. Just so you know, Arthritis is gay...
On a lighter note, this was something cool I stumbled upon. A little too expensive for my taste... Although, with the new elite 360 that's being released, the idea of getting a 360 is getting much more attractive. It's only 50 bucks more than a regular 360, and I can see myself playing a lot of NHL in the future..
