High School Ignorance
Just wanted to share an experience that I had just recently that really illustrates the status of the high school student.
So I know this girl from church and we're pretty good friends. She goes to high school, and I haven't seen her for a while at church. Anyway, she has a blog which she regularily updates. In a recent update she had, she talked about all of the drama that comes with being in high school (relationship trouble, backtalking friends, etc). So upon reading this, I make a comment to kind of establish a connection with her. I have to admit, the comment was a little long, maybe a paragraph or so. Anyway, a few days after I post the comment, there is another comment that shows up that reads as follows:
(no name):
shut the fuck up!
Taking it in a little bit, I laugh at how simply ignorant and stupid the comment was. So I post a short comment reading "That's nice, and very mature..."
After a few days go by, I get curious as to seeing if there has been some kind of response. I looked at it 2 minutes ago, and not surprisingly there's another comment:
(no name):
shut the fuck up!
What was the point of the story? I don't know, I just think it's a perfect illustration of the high school mind. I'm not saying this in a hypocritical way, because I know I would have been just as easily urked back then to fire back at will. It's just a really interesting look at a past emotional time of everyone's lives. It really doesn't surprise me that teenagers have the problems that they do considering how emotional the high school environment is. It's kind of a pity that at that stage, most of the time you don't get the opportunity to really be yourself and just let it all out. Half the time you're worried about your friends talking behind your back, or pissed off at that other guy/girl. I honestly don't know if I could ever see myself working with high school students because of this inherent paranoia.
If anyone comments on this blog 'shut the fuck up!' from (no name), I will destroy you...

High schoolers just don't have that outside experience that we all have. They're stuck in their own little world not caring about anything that is actually relevant. You call it paranoia, but I still call it a lack of maturity. They will face real problems after they graduate. They'll learn from it and hopefully mature from it. But for now, they just need to learn to respect people and "shut the fuck up" themselves.
Hahaha... two wongs don't make a white... thats so ridiculus. In another context, I might be a bit more offended...
I was going to comment on the other post and mention intent being a key of what they were trying to do. I guess nothing is stopping me from still commenting, but ah well.
As for high schoolers, they'll just have to learn. There is a quote attributed to Muhammad Ali where he says if you're still the same person that you were 20 years before, you've definitely wasted your life. I'm on year 3 from 18 so I get some lee way =)
Just for fun, i'm commenting on it.....shut the fuck up!
There, it was a funny story and it just made my day! Thanks Dev! =)
I think your grouping and sterotyping the group too much. I bet you many people are age (that may be out of our group of friends) would have posted the same thing. Let's not jump the gun and be hatin all the high schoolers now.
