Mentality is Key

After such a crappy end to 2006, I started to dread going back to work and school and starting the whole crapcycle all over again. Today when I went to work, I could feel the stress of the workday hitting me before I even got to the office. For those of you who know me well, you know that I absolutely hate homework or anything thar relates to bringing work back home. In a way, I've been doing that with my new job lately because I can't seem to figure out how to solve some problems, and the worrying gets carried over to my non-work life. Today, it felt like it was gonna be more of the same thing. But before I gave into the crapshute of stress (CRAP SHUTE!), I figured I'd try a different approach.

Instead of assuming the thinking about the job as the 'daily 9-5 grind' that so many disgruntled workers get into (especially the office workers), I began to think of the job as just a job. Instead of making the job my life and taking everything personally, I began to realize that I would eventually get everything settled and that it wouldn't be a problem in the near future. Right away my day got better and before I knew it, every task of my job became simpler than I had previously envisioned it to be.

The lesson learnt for me was to not give into the drama or 'stressed out' state of mind that so many people get stuck in. It's pretty ironic because so many people are stressed out about this, or stressed out about that, that it's become a regular descriptive word for how things are going. But when you finally have the chance to zoom out of the picture and seriously look at how bad your situation is, you realize that it's totally fixable and that the stressed out status is completely self-inflicted. Most people get stressed out, and they almost become a little proud of it when they can tell their friends that they are stressed out, because it implies that they have lots of things going on in their life and that they're really important because of this. But in the end, it's really not worth the label, when you can so easily take a step back, and take care of things properly. "Stressed-out" is a bunk term, and we should get rid of it.
