Good Old Times at the K-days (Part 1)

So it's about 2 hours before I take off on my very first road trip to Calgary where I do the driving. What better way to spend the time than packing? Oh wait that'd be responsible of me, I guess I'll just have to blog instead...

If you haven't read Chris' blog about K-days, be sure to take a gander here, it's a gooder. In fact, it's so good, you can take 5 ganders if you want, just don't take more or you'll be a ganderwhore. In a way, it's kind of inspired me to think about my own personal favorite experiences with K-days, seeing as this year it's being changed to Capital Ex. Let's do this in the most appropriate way, a cheesy sitcom flashback phrase. Why I remember it like it was yesterday.....

One of my favorite experiences in K-days has to be when Uh-Oh the gameshow from YTV came into town. Oh YTV, how you've changed into a anime-ridden epicentre of horrible english dubbing. Anyway, in this particular year, I'm pretty sure I was touring the facilities with Tony when we stumbled upon two of the show's hosts visiting in Edmonton. So as we got closer, my interest was peaked because one of the more good looking hosts was present and mingling with the fans. For those of you old school Uh-Oh fans who may know what I'm talking about, her name was Samantha (or Sam). If you don't know who she was, take a quick look here, and you'll see what the fuss was all about. As well, there was the other host there named Aaron, but who cares really? Anyway, this competition came up where they were going to spout out Uh-Oh trivia questions, and if you were quick enough to answer correctly, you'd get a chance to play a little competitive game of theirs. Bingo! This was my time to shine. I watched Uh-Oh religiously for the past 2 years and I was definitely gonna crush some of these kids in these trivia questions. Turns out, I do get one of the questions right, and I'm one of the candidates for the next game.

Now before you have to go on, you have to imagine how awkward this looks. Here we are, me and Tony, in the Junior high stage, crowded in with a group of elementary kids or younger even. What makes it worse is the fact that we're massively tall in comparison to these kids, so any onlooker could obviously see that something's not right.... Thankfully we weren't arrested for seeming like pedophiles, and I step up to the next competition.

In this event, there must have been at least 6-7 other contestants that I'm pitted against, and Samantha (or 'Slashin Sam') begins to explain that the next contest will be to see who can hoolahoop the longest without it falling down. WHAT THE HELL?!?!?! Since when do I hoolahoop at all?! Worst of all, almost all of the other kids I'm going against are young girls who grew up with these things. I'm screwed, I'm so screwed.... By the way, the prize for the whole thing was some kind of opportunity to stand in a showerstall type thing, and try to catch gift certificates while the fan blows them around from beneath you.

"Ok, ok, you got this Dev...." At this point Tony is laughing his ass off because he can already tell that I'm doomed to failure. So Sam starts to countdown, and I have my hoop of hoolas in hand ready to let it rip. 3-2-1............GO! And there I go, throwing the hoolahoop against my hip hoping that I can keep this thing up.

I don't think the hoop even made one full revolution around my body before it pathetically fell to my feet... Instantly afterwards, I'm showered by children's laughter and ridicule along with Tony's, and I'm handed a consolation prize for my efforts......a mini Aqua (as in the music band) frisbee. I hate you all....

Anyway, afterwards me and Tony get the opportunity to get autographs with Sam and Aaron and it was pretty cool. Sam was bugging me about the event, but was also really cool about how my performance made the event fun. So we each got two stuffed animals signed by both hosts, and to this day I hate Tony because his autograph from Sam mentioned him being a 'cutey'. Sick bastard......I never got anything like that...... And Tony still has the stuffed animal to prove the whole experience.

That took longer than I thought, so I'll have to blog about other stuff next time.

Haha, thats a great story... ah the hula hoop... man, who thought that would be fun? It seems like such a silly thing to have fun with. "Hey, you bored? I have this great game where we make a giant circle, and swirl it around our bodies! Awesome huh?!"
