Just a quick thought
If liposuction or any other kind of artificial surgery involving the body is ethically wrong because you're altering the body you were born with and such, then what makes braces so acceptable in society? Are you not altering the teeth that God gave you? And both make for a healther lifestyle end result, so what makes them so different?
Hopefully this will cause some discussion.

I do not believe surgery to alter your body can be unethical -- it has no impact on morality. It is simply a person exercising their right to determine what happens to their body. If someone at church, perhaps a pastor, states that altering your body is immoral, that is his or her opinion -- it is still up to the individual to reflect on morality and, if necessary, their scripture to decide what the best course of action is. Contrary to what many 'fire and brimstone' Southern Christians would have us believe, there is no black and white -- especially when dealing with the Bible. For instance, someone who states that it is unethical to alter the body would be hard pressed to explain all of the circumcision references in the Bible, as it is obviously a form of body altering that Jews and many Christians have practiced for millenia -- fully endorsed in the Bible countless times.
On top of this: is wearing clothes not covering up what God gave you? If you were born into the world naked, should you not stay naked, since that is the way God intended you to enter the world? I'm not trying to piss anyone off, I'm just trying to ask whether this is a logical extension of that way of thinking or not.
Anyway, I've jabbered enough.
When you mention braces I kinda felt like it then you would extend that to all kinds of aids. To an extent you can add glasses, hearing aids, and medicinal drugs that alter the body (antidepressants). I don't see anything wrong with trying to help people be functional.
However, cosmestic surgeries could be said to be dysfunctional in some cases. First, the way some celebrities have used it, it creates an image that "normal" people can't attain. Second... uh... Michael Jackson. Yeah, I got tired midway through this.
I rest my case?
Yeah, I agree to everything Chris says.
