So I've been watching gymnastics for about an hour now on my TV tuner. And I've also been trying to grasp why I can't take my eyes away from the whole thing, and I've come to 3 different conclusions:
1) The dramatic backstories: Being a non-regular Olympic watcher, I'm not quite sure if they've always had this during the games. But nowadays they'll always show the odd story about an athlete that's had to struggle through some kind of obstacle while getting to the Olympics. Say for example they had a story about a 25 year old named Mohini Bhalwaj (oh yes I remember her name even...) Anyway, she's an american athlete believe it or not, and she was struggling to get the funding for her Athens trip. She sold raffle tickets, delivered pizzas, and all kinds of odd jobs to get the money. But then Pamela Anderson the actress, heard about her struggle and then sponsored her with a cheque for $20,000. And as they're telling the whole thing, you can see they've incorporated they're all too famous NBC cliche reality show backstory telling theme. With the commentary about life, and the interview with the coach and such.
2) The fact that I'm watching TV while surfing the net.
3) Waiting for the Yao Ming Olympics commercial.
4) Or just plain too lazy to work out.
Anyway, besides all of that, I recently just saw the conclusion to Last Comic Standing, which is by the way a great show! For those of you who didn't hear, John Heffron ending up winning. My money was really between him and Gary Gulman, but it looks like he took it. What's funny is after all of that stand up, you can't help but try to come up with material of your own about stupid little things that you notice in life. Of course it's never as good as the stuff they show on tv, but sometimes it can be slightly amusing. Here's a little bit that I've been thinking about:
"What I don't understand is how did people come up with the term 'bad chinese?' You hear it everywhere on TV and in real life whenever someone isn't feeling so good. 'Hey man, I don't think I'm going out tonight, I had some bad chinese.' In my mind, I never thought there was such a thing as 'good chinese.' It's not like you ever see someone say, 'Wow I feel great, I'm totally ready to go out because I just had some good chinese. You know, cleaned the colon up real nice!'"
Alright I'll save you from the rest of the unorganized, and lame dribble I had lined up. I'll be here all night....
