So it now seems that I've started to enjoy blogging about abstract thoughts much like Kev. And of course with that kind of blogging comes many opinionated perspectives. So with that said if anyone finds my blogging offensive or anything, I think they just have to live with it. It may sound a little harsh, but there's a reason why I blog about these things, and that's because that's how I really feel about them. If I were to take everything I blogged about back and say that I'm sorry to every person that I offended, I think my blog would just be a long list of apologies to ppl that I've wronged in the past (much like an alcoholism recovery group). And if I were to make every perspective non-opinionated and on the safe side, then it wouldn't really be my blog. So let's just remember that with reading comes great discretion, which I think is pretty much standard with all blogs. Other than that, I'm not gonna completely go out of my way to name names and attack people. Yes, and that's all done with.

Back to the weird mind of Dev.

So I've been really thinking about the issue of identity. I know many ppl my age have an identity crisis and haven't quite found their individuality yet. One of the conclusions that just came to me while thinking about it though is doesn't that go against everything that we're taught as kids? I mean what is identity in the first place? Is it our capacity to joke around and be made fun of while laughing it off? Or is it the ultimate difference between good and evil, sane and insane, lazy and proactive?

Because as children I always remember being told, "Share your things with everyone" "Respect your elders" "Mind your manners" "Say please and thank you" "Be kind to your knees, you'll miss them when they're gone." Ok so maybe that last one was from that Baz Lurman song, but you get my drift. Even though those all had to do with developing manners, isn't having and not having manners a huge part of our individuality as well? It really sets us apart as different ppl with the level of manners some ppl have, and how rude other ppl can be. It doesn't mean that the ppl who didn't develop manners as well as the rest of us are inferior in any kind of way. Maybe they just chose not to develop manners, or they chose to be less social in that way.

Now don't take this as some kind of defense for those punk rock homos who try to "rebel against society" by wearing spikes on their hoodies, or putting gay band names on all of their clothing. "Hey you wrote all over your clothing, great job dick! You must be really rebelling now!" See, now going back to the beginning clause of this blog, I can directly target these kind of ppl because I know that I don't have any friends that fit into this category. Which brings me to a whole new subtopic of this discussion, the rant.

Why is it that punk rockers think they're suddenly somehow better than everyone else in this world? It's as if they've seen the light, and know the true meaning of life. This is the punk rocker thesis about life, from what I've gathered: "The world's a bitch, everyone is greedy, no one really cares about you, it's all the governments fault, anarchy would run the world best, only those hard metal bands understand, I'm gay, I'm gay, I'm gay...." Ok so maybe I added in that end part. But really, these individuals treat other ppl as if they haven't seen the real truth to life, that the anti-christ should be worshipped, and act all superior. I'm sorry but if you think that the solution to everything is to listen to punk bands 24/7 and hate the world, you go ahead and do that. We'll see how long that lasts when you get booted out of the house, you have no job, and not even enough money for your daily bottle and half of gel to "rebel against society" with your hair...... It may sound overly harsh and close minded of me to say all of this, but I can't just bring myself to respect ppl that cut up all of their clothing, put spikes/studs in the seams for no reason, worship heavy metal bands as Gods, and steal their mom's makeup at night so they can "act out against society" with a hint of lipstick. Homos..

Back to the general part of my blog. As I was saying ppl just can't figure out what they're looking for and who they are. And naturally I find that this leads to stereotyping the world, which I find kind of ironic.

So, everyone starts to put the world into categories. The nerds, the jocks, the preps, the whatever. Even though those terms seem so much like junior high terms, you would be surprised at how many ppl still hold that theory to heart. What's ironic about this whole thing is that, even though most ppl just start to fit themselves into each one of those categories, there's always the odd one person that says to themselves "I'm not gonna do anything for anyone else's sake, I'm gonna be 'true' to myself and do whatever I want. Because I'm my own person." Great.... So they begin to look up to ppl like Avril Lavigne who "doesn't take any crap from anyone" and "isn't trying to please/live up to anyone but herself."

I mean really, is that the way it works? Do you truly believe that Avril just does whatever is on her mind? Hell no! If she really did, and she was really this rebellious girl that she's shown to be, then many things would happen:

1) No record label would sign her on due to her inflexibility to their needs.

2) She wouldn't be appearing on talk shows labeled as "queer" such as Ellen, Ryan Seacrest, and Carson Daly.

3) She'd get her ass kicked at least once in her life for being such a smart ass.

And once this is figured out, the other realization hits. There is more than just one person that feels the same way. So they you have it. Don't think that you can be COMPLETELY individual in this world. Of course there's gonna be those characteristics that sets you apart from everyone, but you'll always have to pick a crowd to fit your perspective in.
