Oh yes, it's the return of Crazy Dev and his late night entries! This time it's even more psycho because it's 5:30 in the morning! My explanation for this one is that actually I had to work an inventory shift at blockbuster tonight, and my shift started at 12 AM. The basic idea behind such a shift is to find out how much bastard customers have been stealing from you for the last month. This is accomplished by scanning every single sell-through item of the store once, and then tallying up how much we scanned, and how much we SHOULD have had. What can be considered sell-through? It can range from the very extremes of full game systems (XBOX, Gamecube, Playstation 2), and every single gumball in our "Magic Gumball" Machine (personally I don't see much that's very magical about it...)
Anywho, after the entire scanning and tallying was done, we found that we actually did extremely well for theft this month. To give you an idea, my old blockbuster in which I used to work at Clearwater (I like to refer to it as Queerwater), had one inventory done within 5 months time, that resulted in finding over 500 DVD's missing!!!! Honestly, how could you be missing 500 DVD's in 5 months?!?! Now that's just counting sell-through items, and not even rentals. Now, compared to those standards, we should be named the masters of blockbuster here at my new location. Now after the tallying of tonight's results, we found that we had lost a total of -1 dvd's in 1 month. Yeah that's right, MINUS 1 dvd. This meaning that we actually found a DVD that we had not counted in the last inventory. How much cooler can it get?!
Speaking of blockbuster, just a little note to Kev: Great news! Was talking to Cathy (our store manager), and she said that you approached her sometime today or yesterday I believe said. Anyhow, that left a really good impression with her because you knew her name, and she was embarassed she didn't know yours. Long story short, I deducted from her description of a 'small guy' who was asian, and who was with a girl with brown hair, and he was wearing a big puffy jacket, that it was in fact you, and now she knows your name. I asked her about if she was hiring anyone currently or not, and she actually said that right now she's not allowed to hire with christmas coming, but when the new year comes, who knows..? She also says that you seem to be a really nice guy, and for you to for sure be checking back constantly about it!
Some other stuff that happened today. While I was walking to work around midnight from Ryan's house which is not even 2 blocks away, I BELIEVE that I may have dropped a really expensive XBOX game on the sidewalk or road that I was meaning to return. This is really getting me paranoid because I don't wanna pay for a game that I won't even be in the possession of, and it's also very expensive. I really hope it turns up........
Some of the deeper things in life. When I was just reading Ant's blog (www.antno.blogspot.com), he brings up a very good point about human ignorance. Now while he brings up very valid points concerning the issue, I believe that it would be better named human selfishness. Here are my thoughts on that (after reading some of Dale Carnegie's book "How to make friends and influence people". Very awesome business relations book, I recommend it to EVERYONE!)
As stated in the book, and time and time again by famous philosophers, human kind is always most interested in themselves. If you don't believe this yourself, I want you to try this. The next time you are on the bus, with nothing to do, try listening to the conversations of a pair of ppl right near you. When doing this, you'll find that while one is trying to explain or describe his/her experiences with a specific situation, the other participant will frequently butt in to insert something about their own similar experience. I find that this happens throughout the entire conversation, and not only are personal stories chopped up into pieces, but they are not genuinely listened to by the other person. The fact is that we like to talk about ourselves much more than anyone else. Many reasons for this include self gratitude, and impressing others. And when you do hear the odd time when someone DOES ask the other person about them, you can almost see it in their eyes, that they are not really listening at all, but more trying to find another thing to say afterwards. That's why you'll always have people asking "hey what's up?" every single time, and every time, they don't really listen.
Now I personally don't think it really poses any problem at all because it's only natural for us as human beings to slip into that trap. Either way, both individuals find the conversation equally rewarding anyhow, because they were able to share a part of themselves with the other in one way or another. I think the key lesson to be learnt here is that, for the man who can listen with sincere interest to another person before yammering on about themselves, the road to success is already paved for them. In fact that's easily one of the most important points presented in Carnegie's book "Listen to others".
Again I really recommend that book to everyone just as it has many interesting points in it that you and I often take for granted...
What else happened today..? Oh! I also went to Ryan's house before work to play some new xbox games! And I must say, for all of the three games that we chose between us, all of them are capable of being potential games that are MUST BUY! The three games we played were Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Batman: Rise of Sin Tsu, and Hunter:The Reckoning. All of them of course being cooperative games. I think that the fact they were coop games had a lot to do with their success, as those kind of games are becoming less and less frequent. Also a very responsive camera following system, and a large variety of moves attribute to lots of fun game play. I just have to say that: Tony, you really missed out.......
Hmm I think that's enough for tonight. I doubt anyone will read the ENTIRE blog as it is very long winded and for the fact that it took me 30 min to write.
For my next blog: "The Braun Electric Toothbrush vs. The Crest Spinpro Toothbrush: the Clash of the Titans!"
