Anyhow like I was saying about the problem with "Association"

When you think of some "gay" or "lame" image of a music artist or band in the music world, what do you normally associate with such labels? I think for everyone, the common answer is that their music sucks, and that they have no talent especially with teenage guys. Now the problem with such an issue is that though it doesn't always seem to hold true, everyone thinks that if a certain individual isn't cool or "hardcore" that it means they MUST have crappy music. I would say the best example of this is Justin Timberlake.

Now with Timberlake, he was formally associated with N'SYNC which wasn't very popular with the teenage guys. I think the main problem was that they were considered a 'boy' band and therefore they can't be cool at all. But, contrary to this of course, they were one of the biggest selling bands of their label. Now I think that that's proof enough that their music must have been atleast semi-good. I mean, honestly, who can say that they have never ever liked one of N'SYNC's songs, or that they haven't tapped their feet to the beat of atleast one of their songs. If everyone were to answer honestly, I think everyone would agree that they have atleast at one point in time.

Now here's the catch. The minute that Justin Timberlake decides to take a break from his group, and drops the boy band persona, he becomes acceptable to listen to. Don't get me wrong, I mean his music is somewhat different from the regular N'SYNC stuff, but it's still the same guy, and now he's looked at in a totally different light!

Now this leads me to my theory. My theory is that teenage guys these days, are so hung up on what others think about them, that they are too afraid to admit what they really do like and what they really don't. I mean, it is seriously a sad sad day when individuals aren't even able to create their own self image to distinguish themselves from everyone else! Of course, P.Diddy and all of the rest of the "bad boys" of the music industry is laughing it up because they're racking some serious cash from ppl that just listen to their music because they have to in order to become accepted.

What's ridiculous about this whole idea is that, you always hear from everyone nowadays that if they were to become a big star, that they would stay "true to themselves" and "keep it real". What they don't realize is that this is totally impossible if they want to become remain a star mainly because of the world that they themselves have created. The world in which if ppl were to be themselves and stick true in the music business, it's suddenly not cool to listen to them because they automatically have crappy music.

An example of the reverse of this theory that completely boggles my mind is Avril. I'm not even gonna try to spell her last name, but you know who I'm talking about. This chick, knowing this principle, has suddenly risen up in the music world as an apathetic, play by her own rules, little bitch if you will. Of course when you listen to her music, I don't know about anyone else, but I think she completely sucks! The funny thing about this is that there are way more ppl in the music industry that posess much more talent than she does, yet they aren't nearly as acclaimed as she is. Well ain't that fucked up?!
